A Postscript from Detlef

With this letter, I bid farewell to the EBA members and delegates as Secretary of the European Bonsai Association, for which I have worked as EBA Secretary since 2005 (from 2003 as a member of the EBA Board). The period during which I, as secretary, was able to help shape the main part of the organization and administration was a very successful time for the EBA.

I would like to thank my friends on the EBA Boards, as well as the countless partners and supporters from the member countries, for the excellent cooperation during this time. I have met many dedicated EBA delegates, EBA Board members, club officials and bonsai enthusiasts over the years and deep friendships have developed. On behalf of everyone, I would like to highlight our long-serving president, Reg Bolton.

Thanks to Nigel Wright for his many years of service as EBA Webmaster. Since taking over this job from Klaus Buddig, he has been responsible for implementing our vision of communicating with EBA members via our EBA website. Meeting the diverse requirements has not always been easy.

As stipulated in the statutes, I will continue to serve on the Board for another year without voting rights to ensure a flawless handover of my extensive tasks to Matthias Graf, the new Secretary. As the EBA delegate for Austria, I will continue to participate in the various bonsai events in Europe and look forward to many reunions with my old friends.

I would like to thank my wife, Christa, for her help in translating the countless documents I compiled for the EBA organization, especially in drafting the new "EBA Bylaws," the "EBA Internal Rules," and the "NTC Rules" at the beginning of my tenure. She also accompanied me on my travels to the more than 23 EBA conventions across Europe.

Now I should have a little more time to pursue my other interests and bonsai projects in my garden.

With best wishes for the continued success of the European Bonsai Association under the new EBA Board!
